The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show which was held from 23 October until fl November 2019, showcasing some of the company’s latest tyres that are equipped with the latest in-road safety innovation. tThe motor show was an excellent platform for Goodyear to showcase the future of tyres.
Themed ‘Freedom to Move’ – Goodyear demonstrated its approach toward future mobility, backed with its history of innovation, through the exclusive exhibition of future concept tyres.
1.Lexus EV concept car equipped with Goodyear concept tyre (Global Premiere)
Concept tyres developed by Goodyear for the Lexus EV concept car was at the Lexus booth at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show 2019. The tyres feature a tread design and cross section developed using Goodyear's aerodynamic technology. Advanced fins covered with fine velvet like owl wings are used on the tread side of the body to generate an effective airflow to cool the EV motor.
2. Goodyear AERO Tyres- (Japan Premiere)
Additionally, at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, a concept tyre designed for the future of flying cars was released. Based on the concept of "two-in-one", this tyre can be used on the ground and in the air. ‘AERO’ is powered by an AI processor that combines information received from the tyre sensor, the vehicle itself, and landing infrastructure. The AI processor analyses this series of data to switch the vehicle to flight or driving mode and advises on the next operation.
3. Goodyear Oxygene Tyres - (Japan Premiere)
This unique tyre features moss on the sidewalls and was introduced at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. The open tyre structure and delicate tread design absorbs water droplets and moisture from the road and circulates them, conducting photosynthesis and releasing oxygen into the air. In addition, ‘Oxygene’ uses an airless structure that was made by 3D printing and recycled rubber powder. The light and impact-absorbing structure has high durability and a free-falling solution for prolonged life, minimising maintenance and ensuring reliable mobility.
Apart from international efforts, Goodyear Malaysia has also played its part to reduce its environmental impact locally, following the installation of 6,680 solar panels at its corporate office and production plant in Shah Alam on July 2019. Not only does this system reduce electricity expenditure, but most importantly it is estimated to reduce 1,980,433.37 kilograms of carbon emissions per year across 2 years.
Additionally, the recently-launched Goodyear Assurance DuraPlus 2, which features TredLife Technology, demonstrates Goodyear’s commitment in continuously advocating safety on the roads. This is further showcased with Goodyear once again being named the official tyre supplier for tournaments such as the Le Mans 24-hour race and the British Touring Car Championship 2020.
